The club and its two
greens were established in 1927 and operated until 1992. Although the bowls club itself is now no
longer with us, the clubhouse building itself is still in use by the Brisbane Bridge Centre.
The club house is still in very good condition and indeed was occupied by at least 50 bridge-playing
people on the day I tried to take some photos (I wonder what they though I was up to!). As you would
expect, the once pristine greens are a sorry sight and the outbuildings are deteriorating, however at
least it hasn't been totally demolished like so many others.
Thanks to Kevin from Brisbane who wrote in with the last image below showing the deteriorating state of
the old players' seating at the club. He says the croquet players are still active next door.
If you have any information about this club and its history I would love to hear from you by
email
or in my Visitor's Book.

The main entry gate to the playing greens at the former Annerley Bowls Club. The
clubhouse is visible to the left. Funny how all the Bowls Clubs have these wrought
iron gates!
The former Annerley Bowls Club clubhouse is still in very good condition and is now
occupied by the Brisbane Bridge Centre.
The former Annerley Bowls Club playing greens are no longer maintained (Hey, who ever heard
of bare-foot bridge!).
The former Annerley Bowls Club storage sheds were probably used to store the equipment used
to maintain the greens. They're not needed now, and are slowly deteriorating.
Funnily enough, even though the former Annerley Bowls Club hasn't operated since 1992,
the street sign still points the way to it!
Thanks to Kevin from Brisbane for the photo (early 2012). The old players' facilities are deteriorating fast at the former Annerley Bowls Club.
