Kedron Bowls Club - Entrance Gate
Former Kedron Bowls Club

Originally established in 1934, I am informed by Bowls Queensland that the club closed for good in 2003 and any former members have moved on to other clubs in the surrounding suburbs.

The club house is on Stafford Road in Brisbane and is still in remarkably good condition and doesn't seem to have been vandalised or even to have been the subject of grafitti attack. As you can see though, deterioration is starting to show in the collapsed tree at the back, the overgrown playing fields, falling ceiling tiles etc.

It is sad to see this happen to a club with a 70 year history like this. You can imagine all the volunteer work that went into sustaining and maintaining the club over the years. For some history on the local area, visit this site.

Update Jan 2007. While driving past the old club site I notice that residential units are now being built on the former greens area. The clubhouse building is still intact, but not for much longer I bet!

Update Aug 2006. I noticed the following notice on the net; alas it's curtains for KBC it seems...

Kedron Bowls Club - Club Building & Fields

A view of the Kedron Bowls Club clubhouse building from the playing fields. A couple of the windows are cracked but none were broken (as at July 2006).

Kedron Bowls Club - Playing Greens

Looking across the desolate and overgrown greens at the Kedron Bowls Club toward busy Stafford Road. It's a shame to see the grounds in this condition when you know how pristine they were before.

Kedron Bowls Club - Rear of Building

The rear of the Kedron Bowls Club building is well protected from break-in.

Kedron Bowls Club - Storage Shed ay Rear of Building

The storage shed at the rear of the Kedron Bowls Club is now protected by a fallen tree.

Kedron Bowls Club - Dining Area

The interior of the old Kedron Bowls Club is still in pretty good shape, although ceiling tiles are starting to fall. The kitchen servery is visible on the right. I imagine this area was used for poker machines, dancing, dining and general seating. The bar area is further to the right out of picture.

Kedron Bowls Club - Main Bar

The "L" shaped bar area of the Kedron Bowls Club is still in such good condition that it looks like the bar staff are about to come in and open for business!
