The 66 Diner in Sanders AZ is a pink and white statement, apparently relocated from Holbrook at some time and combined with a house trailer to create the current establishment.

The scenery in the Petrified Forest National Park AZ is just awesome and the colours unique. This is a panoramic view from Tiponi Point, however juat like for the Grand Canyon, pictures can't do justice to the real thing.

At one time Route 66 passed right through the Petrified Forest National Park AZ. The old power poles mark the route although it is now heavily overgrown.

This crazy sandstorm at Winslow AZ caused I-40 to be closed and we ended up detouring about three hours to the south and then back up to Flagstaff to get around it. The side trip wasn't wasted however as we passed through an area of lakes and conifers - very pretty and not at all what we expected in Arizona.

Williams was our last Route 66 Mother Road town on a journey from Chicago of about 2000 miles across large tracts of the USA. We went from here by the Grand Canyon Railway to, funnily enough, the Grand Canyon! We then drove back through Flagstaff down to Phoenix and out - me to transit through LA and back to Brisbane and Johari to meet up with his partner Julia in New York. What a superb trip, truly a real adventure.
