I love the Gaudi architecture in Barcelona, the market, the food. However, events just seemed to conspire against us in this city!
We arrived from Burgos after a very long train trip to find that it was a feast holiday and the station was jammed with people. We eventually made our way to our hostal which was very dingy and rundown, and inhabited by a strange gang of Romanians who we suspect were pickpockets. They kept everyone awake for hours with loud voices and music. The hostel is in the old city, near the harbour but the streets were filthy and everything is covered in graffitti. Homeless people were everywhere. We got our pockets picked on the subway and eventually were glad to leave!
Having said all that though, the Gaudi buildings are wonderful, the St Josep markets are the best I have ever seen for fresh fruit and vegetables of all exotic varieties and wonderful fresh food stalls and the food was some of the best we had anywhere in Spain.
I still won't be in a hurry to go back though, and this is the only place in Spain which I can't reccommend 100%. I have only posted a few photos here as Barcelona has been endlessly photographed by better photographers than me.
