Zafra is located in southern
Extremadura, just north of the
Andalucia border, and bears a lot of similarities to the beautiful
white villages of Andalucia. It’s only a small place and makes a relaxing change from the hustle and
bustle of the bigger Spanish towns and cities, and it’s VERY traditionally Spanish with its siestas and children
playing in the plazas in the afternoon.
We stayed at Hotel Las Palmeras (€34 per night),
right on historic
Plaza Grande and give it 5 out of 5 for Spanish ambience, location and value!

The former fortress in Zafra, Alcazar de los Duques de Feria, is now the local
Parador de Turismo.
Plaza Chica (shown) and Plaza Grande are the two main plazas in the old part of Zafra.
Our hotel fronted onto Plaza Grande in Zafra and it is a great spot for outdoor dining.
The tower of Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de Candalaria, taken here from Plaza Grande, is a
landmark visible from all around the old part of Zafra.
